Tucker Dupree participated in the 2014 British Gas International Meet which took place at Glasgow’s Tollcross International Swimming Centre on April 18-21. Tucker set three new American Records 100 Meter Backstroke (59.61), 100 Meter Freestyle (54.01) and in the 50 Meter Freestyle (24.26).
World Championships were held August 11-17 in Montreal, Canada. The team arrived on Thursday, August 8 and started to compete the following Monday, August 12. It was nice to arrive early to see how the flow of transportation and going back-and-forth to the pool would work to get in a rhythm before completion started. I swam the 100 meter freestyle on Monday coming in fourth place with a pretty pleasing time. I swam the next day, Tuesday, August 13 with the 100 meter butterfly and swimming with a horrible finish of 7th place. I luckily had Wednesday off in order to rest before my next race on Thursday which was the 50 meter freestyle. I started to get in my rhythm and finally walked away from a race that Thursday with a bronze medal. I had Friday off which was much needed going into my silver medal event from the 2012 London games, the 100 meter backstroke. I raced the same people as I did at the London games and I got touched out by .03 this year from the gold, receiving the silver medal as well as setting a new American record. I was pretty happy all in all with how I swam and was proud to represent and complete for the United States of America one more time.
The United States Paralympic World Championship team placed fourth in the overall medal count. It is always a true honor to wear our countries colors and represent the United States and compete against some of the best disabled athletes in the world.
U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, announced today that 16 athletes, including eight gold medalists from the London 2012 Paralympic Games, have been named to the 2013 U.S. Paralympics Swimming National A Team. I finally made it to Nebraska after a 4 hour road trip up from Denver with my friends from the Olympic Training Center. We arrived into Broken Bow, NE at 3 AM. The following day we got a tour of the town and saw our welcoming to the town sign at the local fast good joint. That evening Jessica Long and I spoke to about 30 people from the town and raised $1,500.00 to go towards the new gym for the high school. On Monday the whole high school and middle school all squeezed into the Broken Bow auditorium to hear Jessica and I share our insights and thoughts about just how fragile life is and how when things get hard you have to choose between what’s right and what’s easy. We also got to spend time, during lunch, meeting many of folks in attendance signing autographs and taking photos. We also participated in an interview with a local radio station sharing our message. All-in-all we hope that we touched and changed a few lives in such a small town, however, in a huge way.

Tucker had a great day by breaking the American Record both in the prelims as well as in the finals with a time of 24.36 claiming the bronze medal. This was a great Paralympic Games with 125+ world records broken. Great Britian were excellent hosts and did an amazing job on all levels. Tucker will be participating in the Closing Ceremonies on Sunday wearing his silver and two bronze medals. Thanks for all your support and encouragement on this journey.
